Sunshine pumped up the ass

From the July 30th season premier of Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO:

May I say, I am exhausted from the optimism. Optimism is exhausting, isn’t it? This childish fight that these two parties have about who is the most optimistic. Can I say one - first of all, pessimism is a good thing, okay? The U.S. Constitution is pessimistic. Lots of checks and balances, okay. And two, why does the American public need to have so much sunshine pumped up their ass? Just asking.
